An accountant isn't just for Christmas
Many small business owners start to think about getting their tax affairs together around the end of the year as their Self Assessment needs to be submitted by the end of January.
This isn't a great idea.
Firstly, it can spoil their Christmas break as they get lost under piles of paperwork as well as dis-guarded wrapping paper.
Secondly, accountants are busiest in January because of all the clients who leave the work until the last minute, meaning that clients will not get the correct focus on their numbers.
Thirdly, by the time you get any details on how your business has performed and how much tax to pay it is far too late to do anything about it, the tax is due immediately.
Every successful business understands their numbers on at least a quarterly basis. It is one of the reasons why they are successful. It is not a coincidence.
Getting your information together sooner will give you more time to pay your tax and will mean that you can make improvements to your business before they become critical.
Meeting with your accountant more often may cost you a bit more but will mean that you can start to look forward with your business, set objectives, budgets and will also mean they your business and life are in better shape...
