According to leaked data from the upcoming Technomic report on the U.S restaurant industry however, the reign of Burger King as second best is finally over- in America, at least.
Wendy’s, the chain that founded the square beef patty, has spent the last few years renovating its image as well as its menu. Now it has superseded Burger King as heir to the fast-food throne.
Wendy’s enjoyed $8.5 billion worth of sales last year, whereas Burger King only managed a mere $8.4 billion.
Fortunately for all the BK fanatics out there, it still remains the world’s No.2 favourite fast-food restaurant and its shortfall has yet to reach beyond the States.
However, with beef prices set to soar and the health-eating agenda finally making a dent on our guilty consciences… is the age of the polystyrene burger box, square cheese and salted fries about to end?
